"I'm a veteran myself, so it's great to have connection to people who've been in the military. You get people from all walks of life. You get people who are in the medical field. We have people from Boston Scientific and Medtronic. We also have people from the National Guard. I'm from General Mills. When you look at the wide range of degrees the cohorts have, it's really fun to see how big your network can grow."
Lauren Pizzi, '23 MS SCM
Supply Chain Manager, General Mills
After high school, Jason Lee, '22 MS SCM, signed up for the military and spent 20+ years serving, including a 2-year deployment during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Once home, he joined the aviation company of Minnesota’s Army National Guard, where he served in three different roles within logistics and supply chain, supporting more than 50 personnel and $261 million worth of assets.
Knowing the military side of logistics, Lee came to the Carlson School to learn about “the civilian side” of supply chain management. Lee quickly found community among fellow veterans in the program.

"My military background influenced me as a student in some positive ways. For example, I approach tasks more methodically. When faced with a challenge, my nature is to meet it head-on. I often use words like target, mission, and objective when describing schoolwork. Every assignment has an end goal, and having this mental window allows me to be successful as a student, full-time employee, husband, and father of three."
Matt Pilla, ’23 MS SCM, ’26 MBA
Vice President, Operations Execution, Northwest Respiratory Services
U.S. military members/veterans are automatically eligible for a 15% tuition discount or are welcome to apply for a limited number of 50% merit-based scholarships.

Gain hands-on experience
Carlson School students gain hands-on experience by completing live projects with our corporate partners. One of our corporate partners, Tokyo Electron Manufacturing and Engineering of America (TMEA), based in Chaska, MN, specializes in building machines used to manufacture chips used in electronic circuits.
A recent group of students, all of whom are military veterans, worked with TMEA on a capstone project involving inventory optimization of components. The team studied the data on parts consumption and production planning and designed a dashboard to track current and ideal inventory levels. This led to reduction of capital requirement and increase efficiency while maintain a high availability of parts for production and service of existing product portfolio.
